Welcome to my blog
If you enjoy finding a lot of different outlets for your creativity, then we may just be kindred spirits.
This blog is an outlet for my interest in miniatures, crochet, plastic canvas, and many other various arts and crafts.
I also love walking, taking digital photos, and most recently, have rediscovered an old love...bike riding! I purchased an amazing new bike, a comfy Townie by Electra this summer, and have been having a grand time exploring the area as though for the first time. It's like being a kid again!
If you enjoy any of these things too, pour a cup of coffee and tea, sit down, and join me.

Spring Lake Landscape Painting in Acrylics
Spring Lake, Acrylics on Canvas Board
![]() |
Spring Lake, acrylics on canvas board, following a tutorial by Joony Arts on Youtube |
It came out great even though I followed the wrong tutorial, lol.
I'd originally planned to do a late winter scene, showing melting ice on a lake. I watched that entire tutorial, and I guess when it ended the next one (this one) queued up but I didn't notice and was half way through before i realized I was painting an entirely different painting than the one I thought I was doing, lolol
Here is the tutorial for this one, by Joony art, if you want to give it a go: Spring Lake
I did the sky and the mountains first, then added the base water color. I really liked how the water looked real hear and was worried about continuing.
I added some darker and lighter spots to the water. I hated doing this because i really liked the water in the first section but I figured I'd better follow the tutorial.
It was at this point, adding the greens and yellows, that i FINALLY realized I was following a different tutorial and not the one I had prewatched, LOLOL.
I was terrified to add the long grasses, but they came out nicely. I used a fan brush.
Finally added the flowers and the sun. I didn't want to add the sun and the rays because I thought they looked strange and not sunray like at all, on the tutorial, but the tutorial is way better than mine, lol.
Finally, I added more light ripples to the water and to the mountain and more light on the flowers too.
This is only my 3rd or 4th try at acrylics and I'm very happy with it. So far I've done the Christmas ornaments, the sunset couple, the rose (twice) and this one. I'm only counting the rose as one as one of those was just testing the watercolor paper at the dollar tree (not the best for acrylics but OK if you tape it down; it will warp otherwise).

All the Acrylic Ornaments I Painted for Christmas
Acrylic Painting: Christmas Ornaments
I decided to learn how to paint with acrylics and started with some simple landscapes painted on wooden ornaments.
Little Acrylic Painted Christmas Ornaments. |
I used Monte Marte Acrylic Paint, plus cheap dollar store paint for the base (first coat). I sealed them with triple thick gloss from deco art, and am so pleased by how they came out.

I followed a Youtube tutorial by Jasmine, which you can find here: Wood Slice Painting on Ornaments

Panda Art
I love this cute panda!
I think he turned out really cute! I had to do this tutorial twice because I was more than half way through when I realized I'd messed up on some of the layers and it just wasn't working. It's really easy to accidentally draw on the wrong layer.
Flo is a great art teacher, and I love her tutorials, but man, I wish I had an iPad and Procreate. Too pricey for me...the apple pencil is over $170 dollars Canadian and the iPad is anywhere from $1000 to $1700 Canadian...crazy! But wow, everything seems easier on the iPad with Procreate than it does with my Veikk on Clip Studio Paint. Once I learn how to use the software more, things should get easier though.

I Tried to Follow a Cool "How to Color Eye" Tutorial
YouTube Tutorials are Amazing!
I found so many great artists online. One, a super talented gal who goes by the name "Loves2DrawManga," has many great tutorials using Clip Studio Paint, and one caught my eye (sorry, "eye" couldn't resist).

My first digitally colored eye, following a cool tutorial by Love2DrawManga on Youtube |
This was a coloring tutorial, and I was drawn to it because I really love the artist's work, and this particular tutorial seemed simple and I thought I could remember the steps.
I was wrong, and had to watch the tutorial on my phone and pause and rewind a bazillion times. The joys of getting old. What on earth made me think I should get into art at the age of 57, lol?
I need my computer to run my digital art software, and it's too annoying to go between the art program and Youtube, so I had to use my phone...which strained my eyes, even with my reading glasses on.
However it was worth it. This gal makes amazing tutorials and I learned a lot. This was a coloring tutorial, so I need to see if she has a sketching tutorial, because my sketches are sketchy, lol.
I'm still happy with how this turned out, and if you want to try it, you can find the tutorial here: How to Color a Manga Eye Digitally for Beginners
