Welcome to my blog

If you enjoy finding a lot of different outlets for your creativity, then we may just be kindred spirits.
This blog is an outlet for my interest in miniatures, crochet, plastic canvas, and many other various arts and crafts.

I also love walking, taking digital photos, and most recently, have rediscovered an old love...bike riding! I purchased an amazing new bike, a comfy Townie by Electra this summer, and have been having a grand time exploring the area as though for the first time. It's like being a kid again!

If you enjoy any of these things too, pour a cup of coffee and tea, sit down, and join me.

Take care!

Completion: Christmas Card Set/Diamond Painting

Diamond Painting Christmas Card Set

This was a fun set to do, and very easy.  The kit was lovely, as each card came with it's own individually packed set of diamond drills.  I'm new to Diamond Painting so this was a lovely way to start out.
I bought the set on Amazon.ca. For more info, watch the Youtube video (above).

Snowy Tree with Deer, Procreate Art

Procreate Art, Snowy Scene with Deer

Procreate Snowy Tree with Deer, #James Julier Art Tutorials

I followed a tutorial by James Julier on Youtube to create this pretty snowy scene.  I added the Christmas lights and the deer (they were not a part of the tutorial).

Crochet Christmas 2021/ADORABLE Completion & Pattern Review

Christmas Ornaments 2021

This is a TERRIFIC pattern by Amy Gaines. So much fun to do.  I did the entire set, and also did a set of 4 penguins only. I forgot to take photos of the extra penguins and I gave them all away as gifts.

Crocheted Christmas Ornaments, Set of 3

Crocheted Christmas  Ornaments

Crocheted Christmas Ornaments 2021

I had so much fun making these cute little Christmas Ornaments.
I started with the penguin, using light grey and white, with a tiny bit of yellow for the beak. The eyes are embroidered on; French knots.
Next came little Santa, to look over Mr. Penguin
And finally, a Reindeer.

The pattern works very well, and I still have 2 more characters to make, a bear and a Yeti.  I'm still very slow at crocheting since I broke my finger and it healed up all crooked.  In the past I would have been able to make the whole set in a few hours.   Now it takes me maybe 4 or 5 times longer than it used to; it took me all day to make these three, and I just finished and it's almost 2 AM.

If you want to try the pattern, it's by Amy Gaines, and can be found on Etsy. Amiguri Christmas Crochet 2021

Today's Procreate Art, an Original by me, lol: Christmas Squirrel on an Icy Pond

Christmas Squirrel on an Icy Pond

Christmas Squirrel on an Icy Pond, digital art on Procreate by me, Kathy Schopp

I've been doing a lot of Procreate tutorials on youtube since mid September, and I decided to try something on my own today, using techniques I've learned.

I'm really happy with the way this came out.   I experimented with a lot of different brushes.  I did the trees with the fine nozzle spraypaint brush.  I used different texture brushes for the texture, and I used the Sable brush for the squirrels fur.  These brushes all came with procreate.  I only drew the tree once, and cut and pasted and warped and resized them, and also flipped them around so they were facing different directions.

I need to figure out how to crop the photo because I'd like to crop out some of the sky.  When I was drawing I made the canvas bigger and then forgot the top existed, lol.  I added clouds but would like to cut it out and make the painting end just above the tree line.

I used this photo of a squirrel for reference.  I had it open on my computer to look at while I drew on my Ipad.  I know there's a way to use reference photos on the ipad but I forgot how, lol.

I greatly simplified the squirrel by drawing shapes...mostly ovals, for the head, body, and legs. I wanted mine standing up straighter than the image above so I just straightened his little back. I could have shaded the squirrel more but I didn't want it too realistic looking.  I'm very happy with the way it turned out.  I hope you like it too, and that it makes you smile.

Winter Scenery with Birds

Winter Scenery with Birds

I really enjoyed doing this tutorial by Tatiana from Tatyworks on Youtube. It took me 4 hours and 16 minutes to do the original painting in green, white, and black, and then another half hour or so to play around with the color balance to get this color, which I like a lot better.

I think I like stylized art the best; it sort of reminds me of storybooks i used to read as a child.  Like a cross between realism and fantasy?

I don't know, I just like it, lol.

This was a very challenging tutorial for me, and I got frustrated at times...not with the drawing, that was fine, but with my memory.  You'd think I could remember something I listen to 5 seconds after hearing it, but no, i had to keep stopping and replaying every bit of the tutorial.
I keep forgetting how to use Procreate. I need to use it more frequently. I really let a lot of time go by between this painting/drawing and the last.  Oops.

There were supposed to be berries on the little bush that the bird is sitting on. I drew them but they disappeared when I merged the layers.  I didn't notice they were gone until just this second, lol.  I can add them back tomorrow; I'm too tired now, and also, I need to charge my Ipad.
