Crocheted Christmas Gifts: Little Cars

 These are the crocheted items I made for Christmas this year

I made a series of cars; the smaller ones were keychains, and the larger ones were not.

Here's my cousin Johnny with his; I made it to look like his racecar.

My 91 year old Uncle Buck loved his.

I had to look at a pic to try to make Johnny's car, lol.

My best friend's Grandson loved his car.

Even my Dad loved his car keyring.

I wasn't able to get a pic of my cousin Andie with his car, unfortunately.

This is a TERRIFIC pattern by Amy Gaines. So much fun to do.  I did the entire set, and also did a set of 4 penguins only. I forgot to take photos of the extra penguins and I gave them all away as gifts.

I had so much fun making these cute little Christmas Ornaments.

I started with the penguin, using light grey and white, with a tiny bit of yellow for the beak. The eyes are embroidered on; French knots.

Next came little Santa, to look over Mr. Penguin

And finally, a Reindeer.

The pattern works very well, and I still have 2 more characters to make, a bear and a Yeti.  I'm still very slow at crocheting since I broke my finger and it healed up all crooked.  In the past I would have been able to make the whole set in a few hours.   Now it takes me maybe 4 or 5 times longer than it used to; it took me all day to make these three, and I just finished and it's almost 2 AM.

I was crocheting toys for the shelter dogs, in a food theme, and couldn't find a hamburger pattern that didn't come in a zillion pieces that needed to be sewn together.   So I made my own.

You can use any size hook and yarn, as long as they go together.  I used super saver yarn and a size G hook. You want to crochet tightly so the stuffing doesn't peek through your stitches, so if you crochet loosely, just go down a hook size.

Materials:

Yarn (super saver) in tan for bun, green for lettuce, orange for cheese, brown for burger, red for ketchup.

Hook (Size G)

Stuffing (fibre fill)

*optional: squeaker insert.  I didn't use squeakers as I wouldn't be around to supervise the shelter dog who got this toy and I didn't want them to choke on it.  If you opt for a squeaker, make sure it's big enough to not choke your dog if he takes the toy apart to get at it.

*we will be working in rounds, so use a stitch marker to hold your place

Bun: With bun coloured yarn (tan or light brown or gold)
Row 1: 6 sc in magic ring
Row 2: Work 2 sc in each stitch (12)
Row 3: sc next stitch, 2 sc in next st; repeat around
Row 4: sc next 2 stitches, 2 sc in next, repeat around
Row 5: sc in next 3 stitches, 2 sc in next, repeat around
Row 6: sc in next 4 stitches, 2 sc in next, repeat around
Row 7: sc in next 5 stitches, 2 sc in next, repeat around
Row 8: sc in next 6 stitches, 2 sc in next, repeat around
Row 9: sc around
Row 10: sc around
Row 11: sc around IN FRONT LOOP only, break off bun colored yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing in ends, and switch to green (back loop of round 11 will be used later for
burger patty brown yarn)
Row 12:  in back loops only (ignoring empty back loops of previous round, which
will be used for burger patty), with green yarn, sl st in next st, hdc in next stitch,
dc in next stitch, hdc in next stich, repeat from * around, join with sl st in first stitch,
break off green yarn.
Row 13: Fold back bun so that the green is facing down and the unused empty back loops from round 11 are facing up, attach red (tomato colored) yarn in any loop, sc around, join with sl stich in first stitch of round.
Row 14, sc around (with red), break off red at end leaving tail to sew in.
Row 15-17, With brown (burger) yarn, sc around
Row 18, With (cheese) yellow or orange yarn, sc around
Row 19-20, with tan (bun color), sc around
Row 21, in back loops only, sc around
Row 22, sc 2 together (dec) all the way around
Row 23: sc 2 together (dec) all the way around
Stuff firmly and then continue to dc around until you can’t
anymore. Break off yarn. Sew in ends.

If you want sesame seeds, sew French knots in lighter
color on top bun.

If you want cheese that hangs out, attach yellow yarn to cheese
round and work a row of sc all around, along the outside.

Abbreviations

sc: single crochet

dc: double crochet

hdc: half double crochet

sl st: slip stitch

inc: increase

dec: decrease, 

I only made this pattern once, so there may be errors as I wrote it down as I went.  Next time, I'll take photos of each step, but I was in a hurry so I could get this done and deliver the gifts to the shelter pets in time for Christmas.

Amigumi Mom and Dad dolls

I crocheted these mini me dolls for my Mom and Dad, for their respective birthdays (Dad in October, Mom 2 days ago).

 The dolls are very cute, and pretty big, standing at 18 inches tall.  They both have removable sweaters, and Dad has a removable baseball cap.  Mom has a tea towel, lol.

 I also found an eraser shaped like a wrench that is perfect for the Dad doll.

 I gave the Mom doll a little coffee cup, made from the lid of a hairspray bottle and some wire.
Mom also has a necklace and earrings, made from metallic thread. Her jeans have cuffs, and embroidered side pockets on the front. I gave her one embroidered back pocket as well  I tried embroidering seams down the side of her jeans, but I didn't like the way it looked so I took them out.

 

Both dolls have embroidered faces and safety eyes.  Mom has a wig, and I embroidered Dad's hair.

 

Mom's shoes are flats, but Dad's wearing sneakers with laces, lol.  Dad's top is not tucked in, but Mom's is.

 I've been blogging about things other than crafts lately, but that doesn't mean I've forgotten about them.  I've been crocheting, and working plastic canvas quite a bit; I just haven't been great about taking photos of them and getting them onto my blog, so I'll do some catch up now.

 I made this sweet little cat with intentions of giving it to my cousin Linda while she was in the hospital.  She got out before I finished and I haven't seen her yet, so it's still here.

 I love crocheting critters, and don't usually buy patterns but when I saw this poseable  dragon on Ravelry, I couldn't resist.  I highly recommend the pattern. This little guy can be posed in so many ways, and his tail helps with balance.

 His wings can be open or closed, his head can be up or down or tilted, and his tail can be curled up like a dog or left down like a lizard.  I'd love to try this pattern again with variegated yarn for the body and shimmery yarn for the wings.

 This green little dragon has been in my project queue for ages.  It's a free pattern, written more like a tutorial than a plain old pattern, and it's very detailed and easy to follow. Click on the highlighted words if you want to check it out.

Greyback ami

 I did all of these projects as entrees for my Hogwarts at Ravelry group.  The little fellow weilding my darning needle as a wand is supposed to be Greyback from Harry potter, complete with hairy chest, lol. He's an adaptation of the 11th Doctor Who pattern on Ravelry...another cute free pattern. changed the hair, added a beard, and some chest hair, but otherwise followed the pattern.  It's a cute pattern.

The green dragon is the biggest of the lot; the mini dragon and Greyback fit in my palm.

Baby Hippogriff crochet

Harry Potter and baby Hippogriff crochet

I wanted to make a baby Hippogriff but couldn't find a pattern, so I just sat down last night and made this while watching TV.

Greybeak is half eagle, half horse, and I created him as Buckbeak's baby as part of a challenge for my  Hogwarts at Ravelry group. In the story, Buckbeak and his wife Cobeak ask Hagrid and I to babysit Greybeak while they fly south for the winter.  Greybeak's adult flight feathers have not come in yet, and he doesn't have the strength yet to fly all the way south.

I have an Uncle Buck and an aunt Cobie, who we always call Co, so the names Buckbeak and Cobeak make me laugh every time I type them, lol.

I have to move soon, and I really don't want to, so crocheting has been keeping me sane by calming me when I start to feel too anxious.  I have a beautiful backyard, fully fenced, and my dogs are going to miss it so much when we move back home with my parents.  I hope we won't be there for long, and I pray that we'll find a place with a fenced yard.  I'd seriously live in a one room cabin if it had a fenced yard for the dogs.

In the meantime, I'll channel all of my anxieties into crochet, and see how many Harry Potter characters I can come up with, lol.  

I already have Harry, Ron, and Hermione in crochet.  I have needle felted Hagrid, but I will probably do a new Hagrid in crochet soon; I want him to be taller.
