Welcome to my blog

If you enjoy finding a lot of different outlets for your creativity, then we may just be kindred spirits.
This blog is an outlet for my interest in miniatures, crochet, plastic canvas, and many other various arts and crafts.

I also love walking, taking digital photos, and most recently, have rediscovered an old love...bike riding! I purchased an amazing new bike, a comfy Townie by Electra this summer, and have been having a grand time exploring the area as though for the first time. It's like being a kid again!

If you enjoy any of these things too, pour a cup of coffee and tea, sit down, and join me.

Take care!

Amigumi Mom and Dad dolls

I crocheted these mini me dolls for my Mom and Dad, for their respective birthdays (Dad in October, Mom 2 days ago).

Mom and Dad AmiguruME
The dolls are very cute, and pretty big, standing at 18 inches tall.  They both have removable sweaters, and Dad has a removable baseball cap.  Mom has a tea towel, lol.

I also found an eraser shaped like a wrench that is perfect for the Dad doll.

I gave the Mom doll a little coffee cup, made from the lid of a hairspray bottle and some wire.
Mom also has a necklace and earrings, made from metallic thread. Her jeans have cuffs, and embroidered side pockets on the front. I gave her one embroidered back pocket as well  I tried embroidering seams down the side of her jeans, but I didn't like the way it looked so I took them out.

Both dolls have embroidered faces and safety eyes.  Mom has a wig, and I embroidered Dad's hair.

Mom's shoes are flats, but Dad's wearing sneakers with laces, lol.  Dad's top is not tucked in, but Mom's is.

I followed the pattern from the book AmiguruME .  Click on the link to check out the wonderful book, by Allison Hoffman.

Sculpt 8, polymer clay OOAK baby girl

This tiny girl has  loads of character, lol.  I painted her with Genesis heat set paints, and I am really happy with the way her skin tone turned out.  I will never go back to blushing with chalk again.

Polymer clay OOAK baby
I'm learning to sew and made her little onesie and skirt, attaching it to a crocheted bodice.
Here whispy baby fine hair is mohair, and she has two tiny ponytails.  \

I added a few photos with my hand to show scale  She's about the size of my index finger.

I made the crib for the last doll, out of plastic canvas.

I had fun making this one!  She has the best hands and feet out of any of my sculpts so far, but her ears are weird, lol.

Sculpt 5, Little Mo type doll, Flower child, polymer clay

Polymer clay hippy girl
I bought this tutorial for making A Little Mo doll about two months ago, way before I started sculpting, and finally gave it a go.

The tutorial is excellent; well written and detailed, and the doll artist, Paulette Morrissey,  has an entire town full of adorable little dolls, called Fern Lake
Polymer clay hippy girl
I had the idea in my head of a little girl watching her big sister get ready for a 70's party, then demanding to be dressed up too.  This resulted in Melanie, a little girl with attitude, even though she's doing the peace sign with her right hand.

If the photos were better you'd see she got into her sister's makup and put cover up all around her eyes, like a raccoon, then put not one but two sparkly flowers on her face.  She threw a tantrum until her sister made her a headband to match her dress, too.
Polymer clay girl
Melanie has long wavy super soft strawberry blonde mohair, a dusting of freckles that don't show up in photos, and baby blue eyes.  Her entire body is polymer clay, as are her slippers and socks.  She can stand but is wobbly so is better off leaning against something.

Little Mo dolls normally have clay hair but I wanted to try mohair, and am pleased with the results.

I crocheted the dress with matching undies and headband for her.

Polymer clay flower child
She's bigger than my other sculpts, but still a tiny thing.

I love my little flower child, especially her long soft hair, and the expression on her face.  I wish I could get good pictures of her; I tried at night, and again early in the morning.  Maybe afternoon light would be better?

Sculpting, doll 2, a fairy

Little Flower Fairy polymer clay, crochet, needle felt

I am having so much fun learning how to sculpt in polymer clay.  Meet my second creation, tentatively named Sparkles.
Polymer clay doll head 2
For this doll, I sculpted a bit bigger than my first, and gave her exaggerated features because I'm learning how to do them.  Noses are very hard for me, lol.  I painted this doll with chalk and eyeshadow.  I love fairies and elves and think I will sculpt as many as possible, lol, hopefully improving with each one.

She was sculpted without molds, in Sculpey Living Baby clay.
I did her head first, on an armature made of wire embedded in a tinfoil ball, then covered with tape.
Then I sculpted her hands and feet and placed them on an wire armature that i made myself. Then I sculpted her hands and feet again because I ruined them while putting them on the armature :-).

Armature for polymer clay doll
I needle felted her a body, around the wire.  That was the easiest part of dollmaking, for me.  The wire armature gave me the most trouble.

She's very bendy and poseable, but with closed eyes her poses are limited.  I want to learn to do an open eyed doll next.

Poseable polymer clay doll without clothes
She looks very comfy, doesn't she?  I am very happy with her, considering she's only my second try.

Crocheted outfit for polymer clay mini doll
I glued on some mohair for her hair.  It's a bit of a mess. I've trimmed the bangs since these photos were taken and she looks nicer now.

I crocheted this cute outfit using embroidery floss instead of yarn, and gave her flower "wings". I didn't have enough of the light green, or I would have made most of the outfit in green, with only a bit of the orange.   I've ordered some crochet cotton in pretty colors and it should be in next week. I can't wait!

I do like the vibrant oranges and yellows of the embroidery floss, even though they were my second choice for colors.  This little doll makes me smile.  My aunt loved her.

I am really excited about learning how to sculpt because it's allowing me to combine so many of the crafts I already do (needle felting and crochet, reborning (the painting).  I can even make some plastic canvas furniture for the dolls.

Thanks for taking a peek at my flower fairy.  Should I keep calling her Sparkles, or can you help me with a better name?

Take care!

Crocheted Ron Weasley and Sweater

Crocheted Ron Weasley
Hello!  To continue with my Harry Potter theme, here's Ron Weasley, with removable Weasley letter sweater.

Crocheted Weasley sweater
I love the colors in Ron's little sweater; they seem so Weasley-ish, lol.

Crocheted Ron Weasley and Sweater
Ron himself is tiny, but a bit taller than my Harry Potter doll.  He's about 5.5 inches tall.

Ron Weasley
Ron has bendable arms and legs because I stuffed them with pipecleaners (cut in half, folded over, and twisted so they're more durable).

Freckles
I gave him lots of freckles, but only the larger ones show up.  He has glass eyes, and his hair was embroidered using two different shades of yellow and orange.  His little nose, ears, and mouth were embroidered as well.

Ron having pumpkin juice
Here's Ron relaxing, enjoying a tiny bottle of pumpkin juice that i sculpted out of polymer clay.

Hot Butter Beer
I decided to try making hot butter beer.  I know most of the recipes use cream soda, but in my mind, butter beer is hot and creamy, like hot chocolate, only tasting like butter tart filling.  So I put some brown sugar and becel in a pan and cooked it until it was carmelized, then added milk and vanilla and heated that as well.  The result...absolutely yummy.  It was soooo good I wanted more today, but was out of brown sugar, so I tried it again using white sugar and a spoon of molasses in order to simulate brown sugar.  I added a spoon of low cal becel, vanilla, cooked it up, and yummy again, lol. It's too fattening to drink very often, even with the low fat becel, lol, so it will be saved for special occasions only.

Hagrid, Harry, and Ron
Here's Harry and his pals, ready for adventure.

Ron
Ron looks like he's ready for Hallowe'en, lol.

.I had fun with this project, and the boys look like they're having fun too. Maybe too much fun.  I"d better stitch up Hermione soon so they can get some school work done ;-).
Take care!
