Welcome to my blog

If you enjoy finding a lot of different outlets for your creativity, then we may just be kindred spirits.
This blog is an outlet for my interest in miniatures, crochet, plastic canvas, and many other various arts and crafts.

I also love walking, taking digital photos, and most recently, have rediscovered an old love...bike riding! I purchased an amazing new bike, a comfy Townie by Electra this summer, and have been having a grand time exploring the area as though for the first time. It's like being a kid again!

If you enjoy any of these things too, pour a cup of coffee and tea, sit down, and join me.

Take care!

Inktober 6, Golden, Photo Manipulation in Procreate (Orange Gold fish)

Inktober 6, Golden, Photomanipulation in Procreate

I've wanted to do this procreate photo manipulation tutorial by the talented Tatiana over at Tatyworks on Youtube for a long time. I thought a GOLDfish would fit the Golden prompt perfectly and gave it a go. This was so much fun and I learned so many new things about procreate!  If you want to give it a try you can find the tutorial here: photo manipulation by tatyworks

Today's Art, Merry Christmas, 2022

 Merry Christmas!

Procreate Art, from following  James Julier Art Tutorials

Wow, where does the time go? HOW is it already Christmas day?  I thought I started early enough with my Christmas prep, but here were are, Christmas Day and I still have ONE more thing to finish.  Not gonna happen, lol.  Oh well; I did enough.

I am so behind on posting here because I've been painting and drawing and crocheting and diamond painting up a storm.    I made loads of decorations and gifts and had a lovely time doing it.

There were so many Christmas art tutorials that I wanted to follow, but I only had time to do this one, today, lol.  I also made some hand painted ornaments and can blog about them later this week after the last gift is opened.

We had  blizzard here, for the past two and a half days and we've gotten so much fresh snow that it took my poor Dad 3 hours to clear out the driveway today, and it was cleared yesterday.  My Mom even helped for an hour. I feel so bad that I can't help with that sort of thing but I've never been able to do that because of my severe asthma.  Every year I offer to pay to have someone come do snow removal and every year they just get mad and say no.   One year I did hire someone anyway, as a Christmas present and that did not go over well and the poor guy refunded my money after trying to do the driveway for 2 weeks.  My parents either beat him to it or they stood outside criticizing him, lol.  It was funny, but sad too.

Anyway, we finally opened our stockings and Smokey (my parrot) opened her gifts.  My Dad  is on the phone with our family in Austria right now, so when he's done we'll open our gifts and I'll be back with photos.  It will only be the 3 of us for dinner, and possibly our neighbor, if she can't get to her brother's house. THe roads are bad.  Our cousin was supposed to come to dinner but she can't get out of her driveway.  So much snow, and it's still snowing!

Anyway, wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

Today's Digital Art: Poppy Field with Procreate on the Ipad

Procreate is still my favorite way to make art

Poppy Field on Ipad #JamesJulierArtTutorials

I am so happy with the way this poppy field digital painting came out!  James Julier makes the most wonderful tutorials for realistic landscapes.  I can only follow the tutorials if I don't have a headache, and thankfully today I woke up headache free so was able to jump right in.

As always, these paintings look so much better on my Ipad than they do on FB or Instagram or even my computer.

If you want to give this tutorial a try, you can find it: here

Ipad Art: Halloween

 I still love my Ipad

Halloween Art on Ipad with Procreate following a Watercolor Tutorial, lol.

I found a tutorial on Youtube for a cute halloween watercolor, but I had a headache and didn't want to deal with water and brushes and mess.  So I grabbed my trusty Ipad and just looked at the finished product on Youtube and ignored the tutorial and did it on Procreate. I'd still like to try the tutorial with watercolors but Halloween is over now, so maybe next year.  I used Gouache brushes to make this, and am happy with how it turned out.

Procreate art: Pumpkin Farm

Pumpkin Patch Farm on Procreate

Pumpkin Farm Procreate Art

I was in a fall mood today and decided to try my hand at pumpkin patch. I googled for images of pumpkins, pumpkin farms, barns, and ended up looking at at several photos in order to put this together.

I love painting without a tutorial because I enjoy the creative process, but my art always looks so much nicer when I use tutorials.

I accidentally switched art styles part way through this, lol.  I did the fields and fence and pumpkins in a sort of story book illustration style before supper, then took a long break and suddenly switched to more realism with my trees clouds, and the roof of the barn.  The base of the barn is more cartoony so it looks weird, but I love the colors and am happy with how this came out. Using these colors makes me very happy.  I hope you guys like it too.

Queen Elizabeth 2 Pop Art on my Ipad with Procreate

Queen Elizabeth 2 Pop Art, my first try at this style of art.

I wanted to try Pop Art

So I watched a bunch of videos online and then looked for images I wanted to try to recreate in a pop art style. I found a pretty photo of Queen Elizabeth 2 when she was young. She's been on my mind since she passed and I thought I'd give it a go. I'm a total newb but am so happy with how this came out. It was fun to do and so different from anything else I've tried so far. I am loving my Ipad and Procreate. Digital art is so much fun.

Butterfly Leaf original art on Procreate...sort of Pop Art Style

Trying a New Art Style - Pop Art

Butterfly Leaf by Kathy Schopp

So I am relatively new to art (about a year with Procreate) and I am finally starting to learn a bit about art styles.  I love landscapes, children's illustration (story book) style, and lately I've been enjoying the vibrant colors of pop art.  Although I'm not up to doing faces yet...even comic faces, I thought I'd use some of the bright colors and try something of my own.

It's fall, and the leaves are starting to change, and on my walk yesterday I thought some of the leaves were fluttering about like butterflies, and so....meet my butterfly leaf, lol.

I had so much fun making this, and will probably try it again with differently shaped leaves, and backgrounds.

I also learned that my Ipad does mini videos of my work, which is really cool.  It took much longer than it appears in the video, lol.  It's in two parts because first I did the sketch, and then I did the colors on a separate canvas so I could recolor the sketch another time if I want to.

Procreate Art, Ravine Bridge Landscape #ArtwithFlo

 Another GREAT ArtwithFlo Tutorial!

Ravine Sunset Landscape on Procreate, #ArtwithFlo tutorial

I had such a great time doing this tutorial from ArtWithFlo!  I learned how to use so many different brushes, and even got to make my own brush...the leaf brush that I used for the leaves, which was so much easier than having to draw them all individually.  Great tutorial; I highly recommend it:

Today's Art on Procreate: Palm Beach

Palm Beach, by Kathy Schopp

I really enjoyed painting this on my Ipad with the Procreate App.  I have been dreaming of tropical beaches and Caribbean cruises, so thought I'd try to draw this. I did look at many pics of tropical beaches online but didn't follow a tutorial for this.  I may go back tomorrow and try to add a dolphin jumping, but I'm done for today.

Procreate Art, Canada Day Flag with Deer

Today's art, procreate

Happy Canada Day!

I did this art on my Ipad, with procreate, following a tutorial by Hui Art Studio.  I changed it up a bit, and added a snout and tail to my deer, a shadow, and I used the brushes that came with procreate.

Today's Art: Yellow Tailed Damsel Fish, on Procreate

Yellow Tailed Damsels by Kathy Schopp, on Procreate

I've been in a fishy mood, lol.

I found a photo of a pretty yellow tailed damsel fish and did my best to recreate it on my Ipad, with Procreate.
Here's the image I found online at Bird's Head Seascape blog:

Today's Art: Damself Fish, on Procreate

Damsel Fish, by Kathy Schopp

Todays Art on Procreate: Damsel Fish

So I drew the damself fish on the upper left, after looking at loads of pictures of real fish.  Then I painted him, experimenting with different brushes, colors, and layers.  I duplicated him twice and played around with the shape, color, and orientation for the other two fish.

The background was just painted with the soft air brush in several colors of blue from dark at the bottom to lightest at the top, and the plants are just brushes that came with Procreate, in various colors and opacities.  I had fun, and need to try again as I'm not fully happy with the fins.

Octo Moon Ipad/Procreate Original Art/cartoon

Octo Moon by Kathy Schopp

Octo Moon

I created this cute little Octopus tilting the moon, on Procreate with my Ipad yesterday. No tutorial, just my imagination. I want to try it again without the black outlines and maybe more detail.
I wrote a story to go with it and hope to do more drawings to go with the story.

Procreate Art, Summer Sunset Lake Landscape

Summer Sunset Lake #James Julier Tutorials

Another Great Tutorial by James Julier

I really enjoyed making this pretty landscape art on my Ipad using Procreate, thanks to the talented Bob Ross of Procreate, James Julier.

It's hard to see here when the image is so small, but I think I improved my clouds technique, especially the ones that are fluffy and highlighted by the setting (almost fully set) sun.  I love the colors.
I need to learn how to do grass better, and reeds, but I think I've finally learned how to do skies, trees, and lake reflections. :-).

I may go back to this and edit it so there's not so much sky at the top; but this is how the tutorial was done. I think I'd like it more if the horizon line was up higher and there was less sky on top.

my version of Spring Fields, Procreate Art, #JamesJulierArtTutorials

Spring Fields Landscape Art on Procreate

I had so much fun doing this beautiful digital art landscape today.  I followed a tutorial by James Julier, on Youtube.  It was so much fun, and I'm pretty happy with the results.  My clouds need more work, but I'm happy with my trees, bushes, and field :-).

Sea Waves Digital Art on Procreate

 Seawaves Digital Art, on Procreate

Seawaves, #JamesJulierArtTutorials

I really enjoyed doing this digital art painting on my Ipad, with Procreate.

James Julier is like Bob Ross for digital art; his tutorials are so good.  The tutorial was an hour long and this took me almost 5 hours to complete, lol.

Snowy Sunset Digital Painting on Procreate

Snowy Sunset

I was in an arty mood today and decided to follow a tutorial on Youtube, by James Julier.  I'm so glad I did; I love the way it came out!

Snowy Sunset, followed a tutorial by James Julier

I really love the colors of this, and the fact that it has snow in the shade and melted snow; bare land in the sun.  So cool! I'm getting a bit better at the trees.

This painting would also be beautiful as a summer painting with water in the areas without snow, and along the rocks.   Maybe one day I'll be good enough to try that.

If you want to try this tutorial, it can be found here: Snow sunset tutorial by James Julier
