Welcome to my blog

If you enjoy finding a lot of different outlets for your creativity, then we may just be kindred spirits.
This blog is an outlet for my interest in miniatures, crochet, plastic canvas, and many other various arts and crafts.

I also love walking, taking digital photos, and most recently, have rediscovered an old love...bike riding! I purchased an amazing new bike, a comfy Townie by Electra this summer, and have been having a grand time exploring the area as though for the first time. It's like being a kid again!

If you enjoy any of these things too, pour a cup of coffee and tea, sit down, and join me.

Take care!

Hagrid's Hut doll house in plastic canvas, complete

It's been awhile since I finished this, but I haven't had a chance to post.  This is the first large item I've designed myself, and although I'm pleased, there are a few things I'd do differently if I were to make it again.
Hagrid's hut dollhouse, plastic canvas
The first thing I'd do is to make the doorway higher.  I decided against it because I was concerned that it would make the canvas too bendy but I think I could have gone an inch higher.  Because Hagrid is half giant, it's OK that his head is level with the door frame.  I still have to put the decoration over the top of the doorway...I made a sort of bull scull decoration but I'm not sure it suits Hagrid. I may just hang a lantern there instead, or stitch a sign that says "There be dragons here".

If I were to do this again, I'd make very sure that all of my walls were the same size.  They started out the same size, lol, but I accidently put one the wrong way and made it taller and shorter, and rather than redo the whole wall, I just undid the top row of stitches and cut it down.  But that makes the left wall one row shorter than the others.

I'm happy with the doors and windows that open and close, and I like the front pillars.  It was really hard to figure out how to get the shape of the roof, but I think I managed.

The roof is very tall, which makes the house very large, and hard to store, so instead of making an attic level, I used doubled yarn to tie the two sides of the roof together.  When I release the yarn, I can fold the roof down and into the house for storage, which allows it to fit on a shelf.  I thought that was a good idea, but if I were to make it again, I'd probably make a second level and not leave the roof as collapsible, because I haven't collapsed it yet, lol.  I plan to use the yarn as a beam, and to hang baskets or pelts from it, like Hagrid does.

Here's another side version, showing the pillars.  I really like them; they add to the house.  If I did this again, grey and moss green for the roof, but I decided to use the colors I had on hand as I'm moving soon and didn't want to bring even more things that would need to be packed.

All in all, I'm happy with this (and needle felted Hagrid seems to like it too, lol).  I plan to make some accessories to go inside, but that may have to wait until after I  move.
Take care!

Hagrid's plastic canvas hut, two exterior walls

Well, I've been working on my plastic canvas Hagrid's hut, for needle felted Hagrid.  I have three interior walls and two exterior walls done.  I'm really pleased with the way it's turning out.  I still have to do one  more exterior wall, then the roof and floor.

Making Hagrid a Hut in plastic canvas, dollhouse sized

Inner wall for Hagrid Hut dollhouse in plastic canvas
I am having so much fun with this project!  I finished the first inner wall for Hagrid's Hut. I made it in plastic canvas.  It has a built in bench with room for storage underneath, and build in shelves, one with doors and a towel rod.  The finishing touches will come later.  I had a hard time making the shelves crooked, lol, but I managed.  I didn't want it too perfect because the real Hagrid's Hut is a bit of a mess inside.  I'll have to buy more brown yarn, as the only brown that I have in quantity is too fuzzy (you can see it on the back walls).  I'm making the inner doorway wall next, then the fireplace wall.

Here's Hagrid in front of his new wall. He seems to like it :-).

I can't wait until the hut is done, so I can work on miniatures to go inside. I found a tutorial online for the cutest wizard book, with a bulging eye.
Here's a link if you want to try it, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36z9GUJt_-E

I'm also going to make a mini Monster book of Monsters, and a Care of Hippogriffs book, a broom, a cage with an owl or other animal, a Hogwarts crest, a wand, some potions, and that screaming plant...mandrake root, lol.

I've been sick with asthma and unable to move around very much, so this is a good project to keep my occupied.

Have a fun day!

Plastic Canvas Haunted Dollhouse and Furniture, miniatures

I was searching through this blog for photos of  the furniture I made for my Haunted dollhouse, and realized I didn't blog about it.  I figured I'd do it now, as I'm thinking about putting my pc dollhouses up on  my Etsy shop.  I hate to do it, as I love my dollhouses; they make me smile whenever I look at them.  I'm moving soon though, and can't bring everything with me.  I have to downsize in a major way, and the houses are pretty big, even though they're for mini families, lol.

Anyway, here's the outer dollhouse, which I have blogged about before:

Here are some photos of the interior with furniture:

I had fun making this, even though it took me a long time to get to the furniture.  It's a cute, whimsical pattern, and if anyone wants to try it, it can be found on ebay or  Etsy at times, even though it's long out of print.  I don't know how long these links will remain active as the pattern is considered rare.

This dollhouse was made with stiff plastic canvas, and it's very sturdy.  I thought the hallowe'en details on the wallpaper were fun, but the pattern called for eyes on all of the pumpkins and I thought that looked too busy, so I left them out. I love the cat pattern on the walls of the attic.

The little drawers in the kitchen open, and I keep meaning to make some suitable items to go inside but haven't gotten to it yet.  I have some tiny little bottles that would be perfect, and some printies for hallowe'en treats would be cool.

The pattern was easy to follow, and I would highly recommend trying this Haunted Dollhouse if you enjoy stitching plastic canvas.

I have no idea what price I would ask for this, as I've never seen one up for sale for comparison.
What do you think I should ask for this?

Thanks for visiting, and have a great day!

Last pieces of furniture for "My Pink Dollhouse"

Dollhouse miniature plastic canvas chair, lamp, and table.
I'm done; woohoo!  I finished the final pieces of furniture that are included in the "My Pink Dollhouse" book.
Dollhouse mini plastic canvas furniture.

The pattern called for a darker color for the chair than it did for the sofa; if I were to do it again, I'd make them match.
Plastic canvas dollhouse living room with mini dolls and pc furniture.
The chair color does match the embroidered flowers on the couch, though, and also the pink in the fireplace, rug, border, and door frame, so it goes.  The lamp is adorable; I added a bead to the base to help hide the glue.  The living room looks more homey now.  I put some of the dolls in.  I love the little girl lying down by the fire.  I'll have to make granny a crochet basket, with some balls of yarn and a partially finished place mat so it will look like she made them, lol.  Or maybe I should make her a little plastic canvas set, so she cans stitch her own plastic canvas dollhouse, lol.  I'm in a silly mood today.
First two stories of plastic canvas dollhouse.
The cradle in the green bedroom and the highchair in the nursery are not a part of this pattern book.    I'm debating whether or not I should make a little dresser for the nursery.  There's one embroidered on the wall, but it's hard to see.  I also want to take a "family photo" of the dolls, and put it in a big frame, behind the couch (to hide the windows that are on the wrong wall, lol).

I just love this plastic canvas dollhouse.  I can't wait to start on another one...I think I'll do the Christmas Mansion next.  I also need to build up the courage to work on my wooden dollhouse kits.

Well, I should be writing...books don't write themselves, as much as they seem to when the words are flowing.  Right  now it's like pulling teeth, lol.

Have a nice day!

Miniature dollhouse dolls

Vintage Dollhouse doll sets I won on Ebay
The dolls I won on Ebay came in last week, but I didn't have a chance to open them, what with Mac being sick.  I finally got to open the box, and found these two boxes inside.

Vintage doll sets from Ebay
The set on the left is the Grandma, Grandpa, and baby.  The set on the right is the Mom, Dad, brother, and sister.  They were made in Taiwan, in the 80's, and it says they are 1 to 1 scale, but they are smaller than the modern dollhouse dolls that are in 1 to 1 scale.  I wonder if sizes have changed since the 80's?

Here they are, out of the box...a family of 7.  They're really cute, but the baby seems more like a doll for the sister than a baby for the family.  I think the head is too small.  Babies have bigger heads, lol.
Dollhouse dolls in my plastic canvas dollhouse

I bought these dolls because the smaller size makes them perfect for my pink plastic canvas dollhouse.   Modern dollhouse families are taller; the Dad's are about 6 inches tall.  The Dad here is 5.5  inches tall.

That half inch really makes a difference with my plastic canvas dollhouse. The ceilings are 7 inches high, and the extra half inch gives the dolls more headroom.

They look cute in the house anyway. My poor needle felted critters were supposed to get this house, but they're just a tad too big for the furniture.

Speaking of furniture, I finally made the bed for the green bedroom.

Plastic canvas bed, cradle in master bedroom, with Granny doll.
It's perfect for the Grandma doll, I think.  The cradle isn't a part of this pattern book, but I think it looks cute in this room.  The area rug is also from Ebay.  I won 5 beautiful  little area rugs for 10 dollars, with free shipping. Can't beat that!
Plastic canvas highchair and crib in nursery, with baby and
 Mom dolls.

I made a highchair from another pattern book, to put in the nursery.  It's so cute!  I love these little pieces of furniture.  They are so much fun to stitch, and then put together.  They work up fast, too, unlike the dollhouse, which seemed to take forever, lol.

I had fun placing the dolls in the dollhouse.
Gramps is washing up in the bathroom.

Dad is in the kitchen, looking in the fridge, even though dinner is cooking on the stove, lol...just like a real Dad.

The kids are playing with their toys in the attic.

Mom is tending to a polymer bundle baby in the crib while the baby in the highchair calls for attention.  Granny tends to the other baby in the cradle.

The pattern for "My Pink Dollhouse" calls for two more pieces of furniture for the livingroom...a lamp and a chair to match the couch.  I didn't make them yet, and am not sure if I will, because I don't see how they will fit; it's pretty crowded in there.  Of course, the coffee table isn't part of the pattern, but it looks so good there that I hate to take it out.

I really love stitching plastic canvas.  I'm so pleased with the way the dollhouse turned out...especially the furniture.  The little vintage dolls make it perfect.

I've been watching a "Third Rock from the Sun" marathon. It's so funny...about an alien family that came to earth and they're trying to pass as humans. It's an older show, from the 80's or 90's.  It must be retro day, lol.    I'm watching a sitcom from the 80's while adding vintage dolls from the 80's to a plastic canvas dollhouse that I made from a pattern published in the 80's.    Maybe I should go poof my hair, lol.

I sure wish I knew how to add photos in the proper order.  For some reason, this photo of the full house inserted itself after the nursery photo, when it should have been last.  I added it last, I don't know why it put itself here, lol.

Well, I had fun with this dollhouse pattern.  If anyone has the "My Pink Dollhouse" pattern, I highly recommend it.  The house is cute, and the furniture is just adorable.  It can be found on Ebay sometimes.     It's well worth the time it takes to make, and it would make a great gift.

More mini bundled babies

I made a few more of these little babies.  I think I'm addicted.  I want to find a way to make the felt blanket look more like a receiving blanket.  I have to find my magnifying glass so I can better see what i'm doing, lol.

Doll size for Pink plastic canvas dollhouse

Pink Plastic Canvas dollhouse
Some ladies in my plastic canvas group are going to start on the pink dollhouse that I finished in early March,

Side view pink plastic canvas dollhouse
and they were asking me what size dolls would fit.  I made the house for my needle felted critters, but I looked for dolls to fit the house too, so I could see which ones would fit.

Pink plastic canvas dollhouse, back view

The ceilings in the house are 7 inches high, so the regular 1:12 dollhouse dolls seem too big; at 6 inches tall, the adult heads are pretty close to the ceiling.

Kitchen, Pink plastic canvas dollhouse
I found some little dolls in my collection that work.

The lady doll is 5 inches tall, and the boy is 4 inches tall.

Living room, pink pc dollhosue
She seems to fit well; she's short enough so that her head is lower than the door frame and picture frames.

The boy fits nicely too.  It's too bad they're so rigid.
Pink plastic canvas dollhouse, nursery
I found some doll families on ebay that would be the right size, and put in a bid.

Pink pc dollhouse, bathroom
I still have to make a bed for the green bedroom; it's still very bare.
Pink PC dollhosue, green bedroom

I'm bidding on two families on Ebay, and am winning both bids so far.  There's one hour to go on the first family, and 6 hours to go on the other. If I don't win, it's OK, as I've seen these families on ebay before. They're vintage; one set is from the 1970's, dressed in that style, which I think is cool.  The others are newer, and dressed in Victorian style.

Last night I bought a 56 piece Greenfield furniture set on ebay, at a buy it now auction.  I'm really excited about that, as I like the look of the furniture, and there's enough to fill 7 rooms.  I bought the Laurel and Primrose dollhouse kits (wood), and they'll have 7 rooms to fill, so that's perfect.

I've been getting a lot of migraines, so I keep putting off stitching the bed for the green room.  Tilting my head to look down while I stitch makes the migraine worse.  I don't know why I'm getting so many lately; hopefully that will pass soon.

I'm really excited about learning how to put the dollhouse kits and furniture kits together.  This is an addicting hobby.  I have to make sure to make time for my writing, reborning, and needle felting.  Oh, and plastic canvas.  I love plastic canvas.
I need something hot to drink; it's really cold and windy here today.  I think I'll make a nice mug of hot chocolate and go read my emails.
Take care!

Bathroom furniture, for Plastic Canvas dollhouse

plastic canvas bathroom
I finished the bathroom for my Pink Plastic canvas dollhouse.  The pattern didn't call for a flusher thingy for the toilet, or for facets, but I wanted to add them.  I have to buy silver paint next time I go shopping.  This is a copper color.  I have gold, but it's icky.
I want to make a little glass with a tiny toothbrush for the sink, and I want to drape a towel over the side of the tub.
